At Portobello Institute we share a common commitment to quality, a structured approach to learning and a focus on industry links as well as care for the individual learners.
Our academic team along with programme managers and teaching staff are the heart of the college who inspire and support our students on a daily basis and throughout their educational journey with us. To ensure full relevant support for every learner we have a programme manager in place for every department. All with significant experience within their sector we are delighted to show just some of our dedicated team.
Alongside tutoring in Portobello Lorraine successfully runs her own salon in Kildare. Her approach to learning is a gentle yet assertive approach, fully believing in the college ethos that develops students into industry ready professionals at beginning of a career or indeed those upskilling along the way.
Cathal has completed his BSc in Physical Therapy amongst several other qualifications in Sports Massage. Cathal runs his own private practice in Sports Therapy and successfully works with a number of University & Club teams.
Makeup has always been a true passion for Marie Therese who always a hobby while working in the travel sector but on taking voluntary redundancy at the end of 2005 decided to pursue her real passion. Marie completed a makeup course and admits hasn’t looked back since with some sound advice that it's never too late to pursue your dreams.
Aisling comes with a wealth of knowledge across generating risk assessments, safety documentation including RAMS, accident investigation, identifying and implementing training needs. Aisling enjoys all aspects of tutoring, especially getting students to ask and think and talk about various situations and also supporting many who may not have been in formal education for years.
For Edwin, he really enjoys sharing experiences and scenarios from his extensive experience with students and understands the importance of real life scenarios in a classroom setting in really striking a chord to those listening and try to develop their skillset within FM.
As head of the Early Years department Denise loves the diverse range of learners who take our programmes. The Institute welcomes school leavers, change of career individuals and people that have committed themselves to their families and decide they now want to do something new for themselves.
From the first class taught Denise knew she had found what she loved and finds adults education so rewarding. “You meet so many different characters from different backgrounds looking to come in to a sector that I believe is such a beautiful place to work. We are privileged to spend a few years with these young people when they are in the biggest growth phase of their lives”.
Iryna worked as a tutor at Portobello before commencing her PM role. Now working in this role allows Iryna to combine her higher education background with a real passion for advancement of Early Childhood Care and Education.
Susan has a research track-record that includes publishing in high-ranking international scientific journals and has co-authored book chapters on sports performance. Susan’s main research area to date has focused on the development and validation of technologies for performance assessment.
Brendan practised as a barrister in Ireland since 2008 and also worked as a Legal Personal Assistant the Office of the Attorney General. Generally practicing Equity, Personal Injuries and Criminal law.
Jean has a genuine love of teaching and tutoring at Portobello Institute has opened up a whole new world of teaching to her. Classes are engaging, where students are encouraged to share their life experiences through class discussion, assignments and projects.
Debbie enjoys every term being a new challenge, in the learners, their different personalities and cultures and being part of their education journey starting at the very basics to graduates going on to work for exclusive makeup counters including MAC and Inglot.
Nicole understands first hand the challenges of starting a business in the fashion world, armed with a wealth of knowledge to pass onto students who may wish to begin a similar journey. A favourite part of tutoring for Nicole is seeing students’ piece together their designs to form a complete garment.
For Annemarie it’s about helping and supporting students to be successful and her commitment to seeing them through to a career in fashion. Her commitment to students is every present with ongoing correspondences from graduates having secured roles as buyers, merchandisers all over the globe.
Emma has completed her BSc in Psychology and MSc in Sports Psychology and has worked in both mental health and sports domains. Emma also has a keen interest in performance analysis and the GAA.
Joanne is extremely passionate about customer service in the Travel and Tourism industry and tutors in Tourism and Travel, Tour Operations, Airline Studies, Customer Service and Communications.
Mairéad lectures in People Management, Customer Service and Procurement modules of the BIFM and ILM Facilities Management Diploma at Portobello Institute and thrives working with learners to achieving their goals and assisting their progression within the FM and building services sector.
During his time at UL, Barry gained experience working in elite level rugby with the Munster academy and also runs a successful personal training business while being passionate about sports with particular interest and experience in swimming, cycling and rugby.
Fiona is currently completing her PhD via DCU in Exercise prescription for Cancer Survivors. Fiona has experience lecturing and tutoring at 3rd level in physiology and exercise physiology and is an avid Gaelic footballer.
John is a senior tutor who brings extensive years’ experience in lecturing at a number of third level Institutes. He teaches our students through extensive professional development in his subject domains.
