Meet the Team
At Portobello Institute we share a common commitment to quality, a structured approach to learning and a focus on industry links as well as care for the individual learners.
Our academic team along with programme managers and teaching staff are the heart of the college who inspire and support our students on a daily basis and throughout their educational journey with us. To ensure full relevant support for every learner we have a programme manager in place for every department. All with significant experience within their sector we are delighted to show just some of our dedicated team.
Makeup has always been a true passion for Marie Therese who always a hobby while working in the travel sector but on taking voluntary redundancy at the end of 2005 decided to pursue her real passion. Marie completed a makeup course and admits hasn’t looked back since with some sound advice that it's never too late to pursue your dreams.
Marie Therese comes with vast amounts of experience within the sector. As well as teaching makeup since 2009 she also has sound experience across the makeup and fashion industry. She was head Makeup Artist for Dublin Fashion Festival in both 2012 and 2013 and has worked at London Fashion Week.
She works across tv, film and theatre with significant ongoing experience working in the hair and makeup department at TV3, some shows for RTE and several short films. Marie Therese also works regularly in the Gate Theatre as hair & makeup manager for many of their productions.
Marie Therese also brings international experience as part of her skillset having worked in Dubai in 2016/17 as a freelance makeup artist and for school theatrical productions.
Other responsibilities include representing several brands across public and trade shows and acting as brand ambassador and head makeup artist for an organic makeup company and skincare brands.
Marie Therese understands that it’s a very competitive industry but if you work hard there is a place for everyone. “I have learned not to try compare myself to anyone and to strive to be the best makeup artist and tutor that I can be. Although it's a competitive industry, I find that if you work hard, and never stop learning and improving, then you will find your own place in this industry”.
Marie Therese constantly reminds all her students of this and loves to help encourage them to believe in themselves and to see how far they've come.
