Meet the Team
At Portobello Institute we share a common commitment to quality, a structured approach to learning and a focus on industry links as well as care for the individual learners.
Our academic team along with programme managers and teaching staff are the heart of the college who inspire and support our students on a daily basis and throughout their educational journey with us. To ensure full relevant support for every learner we have a programme manager in place for every department. All with significant experience within their sector we are delighted to show just some of our dedicated team.
Bernie completed her Masters in Business by research in 2012 from Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT). Prior to this, in 2008 she also completed her Bachelor of Business (HONS) with a first class honours.
A highly qualified business researcher, with a great passion for both field and water-sports from a young age is where she found herself coaching and mentoring young children in sports such as GAA, soccer, basketball and swimming. This passion grew on her as she mentored children and adults who had additional needs and found a new career path as a special needs assistant. She has worked in both primary and secondary schools and fully understands the importance of a special needs assistant in creating an inclusive environment for those with additional needs.
Bernie has an extensive knowledge of special needs education and has been a lecturer in Portobello Institute since February 2018. Bernie is extremely conscientious, reliable and hard working. Her students have been extremely successful under her tuition and we have received many compliments in relation to Bernie’s teaching skills and classroom organisation. Bernie adapts a student centered approach in her classroom and is able to motivate and inspire confidence in her students. She is creative in her teaching and aims to ensure her students are both enjoying their studies and are successful. She strives to make each class enriching while providing crucial up to date and relevant information so her students can reach their full potential.
What Bernie loves most about her role is sharing her own experiences with her students and getting feedback from students on their own experiences at a personal level or from their own work placements. Many of her students have secured employment from their work placement organisations.
“Personally, I am very proud to be part of the Portobello Institute team.”
