My Journey to securing the perfect job in Penney’s
We caught up Fashion Buying and Merchandising graduate Denise Dunne on how she is getting on since completing her course at Portobello Institute and are delighted to share her great achievement.
Before commencing the course Denise’s initial path was studying Marketing for 4 years at DIT and while not sure exactly what to do so she spent time working in retail throughout college before working in a range of a corporate admin roles.
Denise always had an interest in fashion and the more she explored it, the more she realised she wanted a job in this area. Working fulltime meant that Denise wanted a course she could complete on a part-time evening basis and after speaking to the team at Portobello sealed the deal for her.
Overall, Denise found the whole experience to be excellent and a massive help when trying to secure a position within industry. “The guidance from the tutors who showed us everything we needed to know right down to how to structure our CVs was incredible with the overall support amazing.
“Course content was extremely relevant and gave us a great insight into all areas of fashion buying and merchandising. I loved how course delivery was both practical and interactive. I also feel it really helped my presentation skills which was a big help particularly for my interview with Penney’s. In class we were always tasked with presenting mood boards, and so when I presented one at interview, I feel this was a vital element that helped me secure that role”.
On completion of the course Denise secured a position in Penney’s HQ as a Trainee Merchandiser and confirms “I couldn’t have done it without the guidance and skills gained from the tutors of Portobello Institute”.
Denise has been working in Penney’s for the last 3 months and is loving it with a plan to continue to work hard and build up her knowledge in her specialised role and we wish her all the best in her exciting journey ahead.
