Maria Cerutti, Montessori Teaching graduate, shares her story
After five years of working as a primary school teacher in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Maria decided to move to Paris where she began working in a school. It was here she experienced Montessori education first hand. From that moment she knew she wanted to get trained in the Montessori method.
After a lot of research, discussions with qualified Montessori teachers and discovering Portobello Institute Maria knew Montessori teaching for was her! After digesting the relevant content on Portobello Institute’s website Maria felt “they had exactly what I needed.”
Maria travelled to Dublin from Paris to complete the intensive programme offered by Portobello Institute over a one month period. This study option was perfect for her as she could study intensely, complete the course and get her qualification during her summer holidays.
Overall, Maria had a great experience at Portobello Institute and found the course to be extremely interesting. “I could not have enjoyed it more and cannot believe how much I have learnt in such a short time. In just one month we explored and worked with all of the Montessori materials.” “If you are hesitating I would recommend taking the course and you will not regret it."
Montessori teaching can be described in short as - through observing a child comes an understanding that they primarily learn from their environment, choosing their own work, without adult assistance. Providing the materials and experiences allows children to become their best selves.
Intensive Montessori courses allow for compressed learning covering the equivalent course content of a standard course, with face-to-face peer discussion, networking and completion in a shorter concentrated time-frame. Time saved with the intensive learning means it is the perfect option for those who want to progress their studies quickly.
Maria Cerutti completed her Montessori intensive training over 4 weeks in July 2017 with a focus on the minor award on the Montessori method and pedagogy. She successfully left Dublin for Paris having completed an invaluable qualification, where she will continue her rewarding career as a Montessori teacher.
