Halima Ansari's journey to completing her degree
For over 10 years Halima’s primary career was focused in the banking sector and upon taking voluntary redundancy decided upon a career change. Her dream was to train as an Early Years Educator and so enrolled on QQI Level 6 in Early Childhood Care and Education and diploma in Montessori Pedagogy with Portobello Institute.
Having three children of her own, Halima was always interested in working with young children finding them “fascinating, how they learn, their milestones, and how they communicate with each other and just simply how they see the world around them with such innocence.”
For Hamila, her chosen course offered by Portobello Institute was just perfect; delivered on a part-time basis and with weekly classes meant interaction with peers along with tutor support. The part-time course delivery option is very suitable with a manageable workload for busy adults.
“There were many practical elements to the course which made me rediscover my creative side. It was also great to have an experienced Montessori teacher tutoring the class. She shared many precious pearls of wisdom with us that I have now used in my own workplace.”
While completing the QQI Level 6 course, Halima found the level of tutor support outstanding. “All tutors were very approachable, friendly and helpful in their manner. It can be a very daunting experience going back into education after so many years, but the tutor support made the whole experience more comfortable for me. Any assignment related queries I had were also responded to very promptly”.
Hamila found the practical workshops to be invaluable across all parts of Montessori pedagogy. “All the materials, tools and philosophies just work and learning about the Montessori Method for maths was just a real eye opener.”
Work experience played an important role in the course delivery and Halima really feels she was given a real insight into a setting given the freedom to practice all her new skills with the children.
Halima would highly recommend the course to anybody thinking of going into childcare or those wishing to work as a Montessori teacher, especially those already working with or have their own children.
We wish Halima all the best in her continued studies with Portobello Institute.
