Cathal Brady, past student & founder of Dunboyne Sports Clinic visits our degree students
Here at Portobello Institute, we place great emphasis on the importance of employable skills to our degree students so we were delighted to have past student, owner and founder of Dunboyne Sports Inquiry Clinic, Cathal Brady into meet with and chat to our final year sports therapy and sports science degree students this week.
An important focus of the visit was to help the students to visual the journey from degree student to successfully running your own practice. Cathal also took the time to share some great experiences and give key advice to all of our students so many thanks for taking again Cathal for popping in.
Cathal comes with a wealth of hands on sports experience as a former league of Ireland soccer player together with relevant qualifications for working in this specialised and highly sought after field. He graduated with a diploma in Sports Therapy from Portobello Institute in 2007 and continued on to complete his Degree in Physical Therapy in 2012.
Cathal discussed the practicalities and logistics of setting up your own clinic. Important elements were discussed on how to set up and manage clinic insurance and accounts through to the necessary equipment and how to gain skills to generate and promote the clinic itself. Cathal manages a very impressive client base working with UCD and Maynooth University teams alongside providing sports rehabilitation to GAA and Rugby teams.
Due to his hard work and continued commitment to the practice, the clinic has expanded over the last seven years and he now employs sports therapists and physiotherapists to work in his practice alongside with his team.
Some wise words from Cathal, “if you enjoy your job you will never work a day in your life”.
