Nicole Jackson, inspirational Fashion tutor insight
We are absolutely delighted to share this great bio on one of our dedicated fashion tutors, Nicole Jackson. Nicole’s remarkable journey demonstrates the never-ending possibilities and new opportunities that arise from completing a recognised qualification in fashion. She is the perfect inspiration to anyone wishing to start a career in Fashion.
With significant experience across various sectors within the industry including retail, knitwear design, costume and marketing, the highlight of Nicole’s career so far has been launching her own leather accessories brand QBU, together with teaching in a space she adores.
Nicole graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design with a BA Honours degree in Fashion Design and since has completed multiple short courses to further her education including a Fashion Marketing and Management course with University of the Arts, London.
For Nicole, starting a business in the fashion world has been a truly challenging experience. “I now feel like I have a wealth of knowledge that can only be gained from this type of experience and hope I can pass this on to any students that may decide to begin a similar journey.”
Her favourite part of tutoring is seeing the student’s achievements, one example being the realisation their design in 3D. Nicole explains that pattern drafting can be a confusing and daunting process to newcomers but with practice they see their pieces come together to form a complete garment.
Tutoring at Portobello Institute allows Nicole to teach in a sector she loves while continuing to run her own business. Doing both, simultaneously ensures that Nicole herself if kept up to date with all aspects of the fashion world, and with both feeding into each other, it’s quite symbiotic.
