Career Outlook: Special Needs Assisting
Special Needs Assistants are recruited in an educational setting in a capacity to assist in the care of pupils with additional needs in a non-teaching nature. Ultimately, it is a care and support role, working under the full guidance and supervision of the class teacher.
Special needs assistants make a huge contribution in supporting those through their time in education while providing a safety net for the child, and a friendly face they can grow to trust. Special Needs Assisting is undeniably a rewarding career, an invaluable asset to a classroom and an essential piece to the education system.
Special Needs Assistants work in mainstream and dedicated special needs schools. Opportunities range from full-time to part-time, contract, substitute through to permanent roles. Career prospects are ongoing in schools across Ireland.
