Nursing Studies - Intensive 12 weeks

This Nursing course is designed as an intensive 12 week programme for those seeking to enter a degree programme in Nursing Studies and wish to apply through CAO in time for August 2019 offers. Classes are held 4 days per week with an assignment clinic on the fifth day. During the assignment clinic, students can book one to one time with tutors for support completing their assignments. Students undertaking this course can apply for training positions in General Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Intellectual Disability Nursing and Childrens Nursing.

The Nursing course introduces students to the caring role of the nurse and emphasises the importance of interpersonal communication. It equips them with the skills and knowledge to care for patients in a safe and hygienic environment.

Students will learn the basic principles of infection control and are taught to apply standard precautions in relation to infection control. They will learn the structure and function of the human body and gain an understanding of the interrelationship between the systems of the body. They study the levels of personal development to understand the concepts of mental age and chronological age in order to be able to relate to people at a level appropriate to their needs.

Thanks to the nursing course I was accepted onto Children’s and General Nursing Level 8 in UCD.

I didn’t get sufficient points to achieve the higher points in CAO for Nursing. However, I felt very passionate about becoming a nurse and would do anything to make this happen.Full story
