Occupational Therapy, Theory & Practice Only, Blended Learning
We are working remotely and are available to support you with any queries you have - please email Brandon at email@example.com or call him on 01-8920035.
Our academic delivery teams are all also working remotely and are supporting our students to continue with their studies or to get started for those just commencing their learning journey. This course is available to start immediately and involves a mix of online learning and workshops. The workshops can be attended by webinar, with one to one tutor support available throughout your learning journey. We will return to deliver the workshops by contact tuition once the current restrictions on social contact have been lifted.
Occupational therapists help people who have problems with their physical or mental health. Their aim is to maximise their clients independence at home and with their working and social lives. They assess needs, and plan and carry out activities that help people to look after themselves. A number of our graduates have been recruited directly from the Institute to work as an assistant to a clinician or practitioner in clinic and hospital settings.
Students will gain a knowledge of the theory and principles of occupational therapy practice, and of the role of the occupational therapy assistant in the implementation of therapeutic programmes. Students learn about human occupation, growth and development and become familiar with the elements of activities of living. They develop the skills and techniques to assist a patient/client in the activities of living in order to enhance their quality of life. The Occupational Therapy Assistant also learns the basic principles of infection control and are taught to apply standard precautions in relation to infection control.
Many of our past pupils have used this course to support their entry for further studies at degree level when applying as mature students. This type of programme helps students gain experience and demonstrates dedication to the profession.
Students may choose to complete their studies at a later stage for the QQI level 5 major award in Healthcare Support or Health Services Skills by completing the remaining 6 modules. Alternatively students may enrol for the full major award at the time of application
What is Blended Learning?
It is very suited to you if you are working full-time with limited spare time yet you want to achieve your degree qualification. During the induction workshop, you will be given your log-in details to the online portal, "Weblearn". Here you will find course notes, reading lists, podcasts, articles of interest and assessment guidelines. The content is structured in an easy to "find and follow" week by week format. You will need basic computer skills such as searching the internet and typing a word document.
Each module commences with an induction seminar and you will meet your lead tutor during this seminar. You can upload your assessments and your tutor will give you feedback on whether you are on the right track before you submit the final version. Blended learning allows you to study at your time with support available throughout your learning journey. Click the link below for how our recent graduates got on studying under the Blended Learning method.
