ECCE Level 6 Major Award - Blended Learning
To meet the needs of an expanding ECCE sector Portobello Institute aims to provide a solid, integrated, unified approach to the delivery of ECCE training.
Our Early Childhood courses aim to develop our Learners the highest level of professional competence as practitioners, establishing in them a wide knowledge and a deep understanding of educational practices in conjunction with the principles set down by Síolta: the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Aistear: the Framework for Early Learning.
This qualification will allow you to work as a room leader or supervisor under the ECCE scheme. You will be qualified to work with children from 0 – 6 within the broader childcare settings.
This course is offered through blended learning, there will be a mixture of live lectures, online learning, directed home tasks and online/phone support from your personal tutor. You will attend 8 Saturday workshops (every 6 weeks).
What is Blended Learning?
This level 7 BA in Early Childhood Studies has been specifically designed for delivery by blended learning. It is very suited to you if you are working full-time with limited spare time yet you want to achieve your degree qualification. During the induction workshop, you will be given your log-in details to the online portal, "Weblearn". Here you will find course notes, reading lists, podcasts, articles of interest and assessment guidelines. The content is structured in an easy to "find and follow" week by week format. You will need basic computer skills such as searching the internet and typing a word document.
Each module commences with an induction seminar and you will meet your lead tutor during this seminar. You can upload your assessments and your tutor will give you feedback on whether you are on the right track before you submit the final version. Blended learning allows you to study at your time with support available throughout your learning journey. QQI Level 6 Major Award in Early Childhood Care and Education (6M2007)
Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. Learners should hold a minimum Level 5 in Early Childhood Education. To access programmes leading to this award the learner should have reached the standards of knowledge, skill and competence associated with the preceding level of the National Framework of Qualifications. This may have been achieved through a formal qualification or through relevant life and work experience.
This course is completed through blended learning and students must attend 8 workshops. Workshops will be held in Portobello Institute, Dublin 1.
