Strength and Conditioning Part time
The course is designed to provide students with a framework for strength and conditioning service provision of athletic populations. Students will learn how to effectively coach various components of strength and conditioning such as Olympic Lifting, Speed (max velocity and acceleration), plyometrics, functional screening and assessment, rehabilitation and prehabilitation, agility patterns for field and court based athletes as well as how to effectively programme, plan and periodise training for athletic groups.
This course will be delivered through a combination of lectures and practical skill based sessions. Students will be presented with detailed manuals covering all practical content delivered so that they have clear and precise technical models for all movement skills learned as well as a strong rationale for their inclusion in a strength and conditioning programme. Additional self-directed learning material will mainly take the form of specific journal articles which students will be required to read and critically analyse. These articles will be provided along with some suggested text books.
Examinations for this course will involve essay writing, a presentation and a practical exam. Students must complete all components in order to pass the course.
