Portobello Institute's part time Montessori Teaching courses are FETAC approved and will qualify you to work as a Montessori teacher for 3-6 year olds. You will also be qualified as a Montessori classroom assistant, and with the help of Portobello Institute and excellent add on courses such as the Advanced Supervision in Chidcare and Special Needs courses you can also open up your own Montessori School teaching 3-6 year olds.
Qualifications gained:
- Portobello Institute Diploma in Montessori Teaching Age Range 3-6 years
- FETAC Level 6 Component Certificate in the following 6 modules:

- Practical life
- Sensorial materials
- Language
- Mathematics
- Culture

Structure:
The Montessori Teaching course is delivered over 1 academic year. Classes are split between practical and theory training, with time spent learning the theory and practising the Montessori presentation skills.
Course Content:
Module 1- Maria Montessori & her philosophy
During this module you will learn and come to understand the history of Maria Montessori and her philosophy and reasoning behind “Learning by Doing”.
Module 2- Practical Life
This module will give you the skills to prepare, demonstrate and guide a child through the learning process of every day skills, such as buckling their shoes to pouring and spooning.
Module 3- Sensorial
The sensorial equipment designed to compliment this module will teach you how to lay the foundations for academic learning by developing and refining their senses.
Module 4- Language
You will learn how to guide a child through the complexities of reading and writing to the excitement of when a child discovers they can put their thoughts down on paper.
Module 5- Mathematics
In our maths module you will learn how to guide a child through the complexities of reading and writing to the excitement of when a child discovers they can put their thoughts down on paper.
Module 6- Culture
During this module, you will be introduced to the materials and activities that will help you guide children to gain an appreciation of the world we live in.
Module 7- Work Placement Programme
During the placement programme of 50 hours, you will have the opportunity to put into practice the exercises and skills you will have learned during the course.
