The Portobello Make Up Artistry course covers the ITEC syllabus for Facial Make Up and modules 1 and 2 of the Fashion Theatre and Media Make Up course, omitting Special Effects. The ITEC exam is optional.

The cosmetic and film industry place high demands on make-up artists and Portobello Institute's course provides you with the skills required for this exciting and challenging industry. This all embracing creative evening course is specifically designed to completely equip you with the necessary tools to work in all areas of Media Make-Up. Your portfolio will prepare you for work in the retail and fashion arena -brands, catwalk, catalogue and editorial.

Entry Requirements:
Portobello Institute does not place any formal previous academic requirements on candidates for this course.
Candidates are welcome to speak to the course co-ordinator to help them decide if this course is suited to them. All courses are suitable for students of all ages. There is a lower age limit of 17 years and there are no upper age limits.
Course Structure:
This course is delivered over 32 weeks, one evening per week.
Course Content:
Module 1 - Facial Make Up
This is the foundation module of the Make Up Artistry course where you will learn face, lip and eye shapes, skin tones, how to prepare the skin for makeup, contour & highlighting.
Module 2 - Fashion Theatre & Media Make Up
Preparing you to work in a variety of settings such as a fashion shoot, media creation or theatre setting is the essential element of this module. Throughout the module you will learn about fashion, editorial, catalogue & catwalk and photographic make up. You will learn theatrical and character makeup, 3 dimensional make up, contouring, colour therapy, body art and temporary tattooing. You will also learn about fantasy make up, period makeup, anatomy and physiology of the head, skin diseases and disorders cosmetic science.
Module 3 - Portfolio Presentation
As a Make Up Artist, your portfolio is the tool that will sell your skills to a potential employer. It is very important that your portfolio is presented in a professional yet original manner. Portobello Institute assist and guide you through the techniques required to prepare a portfolio to the highest standard. Assessment Criteria: Modular theory and practical exams, portfolio examinations.

A full professional make up kit is required. Students can opt for the MAC Make Up course kit (see box on right hand side for details)
