Fulltime Montessori Teaching Courses

Part time Montessori Courses

About the Maria Montessori method of teaching:

At Portobello Institute, we have spent over 25 years researching and developing our courses and we now have in excess of 5000 Montessori Teaching Graduates. Our experience and in-sight into training Montessori teachers over the years has helped us to lead the way and develop a course that is hands on with the academic knowledge to back up practical skills, modern and up to date assessment techniques in-line with best practice in adult education internationally and most of all, our course gives today's graduates the skills needed for Montessori in the 21st century. Portobello Institute's Montessori Teaching course will change the way you view the process by which a child learns and their inherent ability to concentrate and grasp a complex subject when given the time and freedom too.

Career Opportunities:

Graduates of our Montessori Courses can enjoy varied and very rewarding careers. Upon successful completion of the Portobello Institute Diploma in Montessori Education.

Montessori and Special Needs Education:

Portobello Institute is unique in Ireland in that it holds a specific qualification in Special Needs Education. Students can gain a specialised FETAC Component Certificate at levels 5 & 6 in this area. This is a natural progression from Montessori Studies for those interested in the child with Special Needs.

Work Experience:

Work experience under the guidance of a qualified and experienced Montessori directress, is an integral part of the Montessori courses. During your placements you will have the opportunity to put into practice the exercises and skills you will have learned during the course. You will have the opportunity by using these skills to stimulate, develop and guide the children under your direction to develop their full potential. Students of both the full time and part time courses must participate in the work experience programme. The number of hours required are detailed under each programme.

Tutor Profiles:

Our Montessori tutors are all experienced and qualified professionals who have completed a minimum of 5 years in a Montessori environment before commencing a career as a tutor. Some of our tutors have owned their own Montessori Schools and many have worked as Montessori teachers all over the world from Singapore, Kuala Lumpar, Jordan, Omann and many more. They are all passionate about the Montessori method of education and it's Philosophy. All our new tutors sit through an academic year of our course to gain experience and refine their knowledge and skills and to gain first hand experience in tutoring in Montessori Education.

"The Montessori Diploma is a fascinating and challenging course which not only taught me the specific skills of a Montessori Directress but opened my eyes to how children develop-something which has proven valuable both inside and outside the classroom. Learning about the unique materials and witnessing the benefits each one brings to the child is so rewarding and was something I personally felt everyone should know about". Karen Neill "I just wish I had done this year's ago when my children were small. I then would have been able to give them the start that children should have!" Miriam O'Donohoe
