Special Needs Education Full time

This full time Special Needs Education course is designed to introduce students to the key areas of caring for children of a school going age and promotes their understanding of the underpinning theoretical framework of childcare principles and practice.

The Special Needs Education course will show students how to develop the skills and knowledge to plan, implement and evaluate school age childcare programmes to provide opportunities for education, play, recreation and rest. They will also learn how to integrate children with special needs into these activities. Students will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to work with children who have additional needs, and support their inclusion and integration in an early childhood care and education service. They will understand the importance of inclusive practice within the early childhood service in supporting all childrens' development, recognise the characteristics of a wide range of learning difficulties and conditions and appreciate the range of skills and knowledge necessary to work with, and support, children and families with additional needs. There is a requirement for 50 hours work experience where students will develop core skills in childcare practice. It promotes the ability of students to work effectively in childcare settings and integrate all elements of practice within a coherent framework.

Entry requirements

Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. Acceptance to Full Time courses is interview based, there are no specific points requirements.
