Montessori
Welcome to the Montessori Department
Montessori Education is enjoying a revival. The need to set limits and guide children's behaviour towards a self discipline is openly sought. In light of recent developments in the childcare sector, new guidelines regarding qualification requirements have been introduced. Portobello Institute's courses reflect these changes, offering a range of courses to meet the needs of those working in the early childhood care and education sector. All FETAC and HETAC awards are now made by QQI, and part of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). This ensures that your awards are nationally and internationally recognised, creating further learning opportunities for you.
Our Higher Certificate in Arts in Montessori Education (HETAC Level 6) course prepares you for the task of helping children aged 3-6 and 6-9 years to develop to the fullness of their individual potential. This 2 year full-time Montessori course provides an opportunity to study Montessori pedagogy, practices and child development in depth, as well as an interdisciplinary approach to the study of humans, their endeavours and their relationship with the universe.
Choose to study part-time with our new Early Childhood Care and Education programme. This course, a Major Award in ECCE at FETAC Level 6, is delivered in two stages: Early Years Care and Education - Part 1 (Montessori Pedagogy) and Part 2 (Relevant underpinning Theory, Child Development and alternative Curriculum, Social and Legal Aspects, Personal and Professional Development etc.)
Other popular part-time courses include Special Needs Assisting, Child Psychology, Child Development and First Aid courses. We also offer an array of one day workshops and our distance learning department have a range of short courses to consider.
Whether you choose to study Full-time, Part-time or through distance learning, Portobello Institute has a course to suit you. Please browse our full course profiles. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly for further advise or guidance.
