The BIFM Energy and Sustainability in FM qualification is aimed at those working in the area of Facilities Management. BIFM qualifications


The Energy and Sustainability in FM Award has been developed and awarded by The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), the professional body for facilities management. The BIFM qualifications have been developed through corresponding with key stakeholders, to develop qualifications which meet the needs of individuals working in the FM sector.

Course Overview

Module 1: Overview of FM
This module enables learners to develop an understanding of the scope and extent of the facilities management function. Learners identify the range of associated services, the roles and responsibilities of FM in different organisations.

Module 2: Sustainability and environmental within FM
Sustainability and environmental within FM assists learners to develop their understanding how facilities management can promote corporate responsibility and sustain within the organisation. The unit also develops understanding of the principles and methods of waste management

Module 3: Energy and utilities management and FM
This module assists learners to develop their understanding of energy and utilities management principles. Implementing processes and monitoring systems and energy and utilities management policy
Course Structure
Block release: Programme delivered over 3 Saturdays and one Wednesday evening.

Assessment Criteria


Practical assessment tasks that are work-based, reflecting live business projects and activities are the core assessment techniques used for this qualification.

Our Lecturers


We have a team of over ten Facility Management lecturers with varied experience within the sector. Our lecturers are experienced in management of facilities, property or in related fields. They are all passionate about training and development.

Entry to this course is by direct application to the college.

Class Sizes


At the Centre for the Modern Environment we are committed to ensuring our learners gain the most, academically and personally, throughout their time with us. To facilitate this, we limit our class sizes to a maximum of 14 students on part-time programmes. These uniquely small classes, helps to create the environment for discussion and collaboration. Smaller class sizes also allow learners to get to know everyone in their group, in turn, learners to feel comfortable and confident to ask questions.
