The AEMS programme is aimed at energy managers at senior management level with significant experience in the field of energy management. Achievement of the Level 3 Energy Management award reflects the ability to analyse the performance of a wide range of energy systems, to make critical evaluations of systems with regards economy, efficiency, CO2 emissions and to formulate creative solutions to minimise energy consumption without interfering with the facilities core activities. Participants of this programme have the benefit from the design and development input of Spirax Sarco, the leading steam systems engineering specialists.

Aims of the Programme

The AEMS programme seeks to provide the participant with the following skills from the mandatory modules.

  • Understand the principles and practices of energy economics and develop the ability to complete an in-depth economic analyses of energy related investments
  • Develop the knowledge and ability to purchase energy at the most competitive price available whilst also considering security of supply and environmental impact. To include understanding different market types, regulation / deregulation globally, energy suppliers in local markets, hedging strategies including risk management, pricing indicators e.g. ICE , IPE
  • Develop an understanding of various HVAC systems and provide the technical skills necessary to identify energy conservation opportunities including energy recovery, operational set points and key maintenance issues.
  • Understand the concept of energy effective lighting including efficient, safe and quality principles, lighting control and maintenance strategies, calculate savings associated with upgrades to lighting systems
