Interior Design Part time
Portobello Institute's Interior Design course has been designed with the help of professional interior designers and architects and focusses on Residential Interior Design.
The interior design course will provide you with a solid understanding of all the key features of interior design - colour mixing, texture, 3D effects, materials, lighting, space planning, drafting and includes a portfolio presentation using the work you complete during the course year.

Entry requirement
Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. There are no previous academic requirements.
Course structure
This is a part time course delivered 1 evening per week over 28 weeks.
Course content modules
- Design Studies
Basic sketching, blending & mixing colours, creating texture & 3D effects, developing patterns and ideas. - Colour
Learning how to use the colour wheel, developing colour, creating colour schemes, influences of colour. - Materials
Wall coverings, paints, carpets, wood, stone & ceramic, fabrics. - History
Learning the styles and influences of history on design through the ages. Greek, Roman, Renaissance, Georgian, Victorian. Using in today style and reviewing were we are today. - Drafting
Learning from the basics through to completing Floor Layouts, Electrical & Lighting Drawings and Elevations & Sections. - Lighting Design
The basics on how to use lighting to the best advantages, planning a lighting scheme and the different types of lighting available. - Ergonomics and Space Planning
Design the space we live, work and play in. Learning how to making the best use of the space available to the Interior Designer. - Portfolio Presentation
You will be guided through the techniques required to prepare a portfolio to a high standard using the work you complete during the course year.
