The pattern drafting course will teach students how to draft basic bodice and skirt blocks. Students will also learn how to manipulate their patterns to a specific design model. This course will also involve sewing as students will construct their basic blocks and learn proper fitting techniques. Please note, basic sewing skills are necessary. Previous drafting experience is not necessary.

Class Sizes

We are committed to ensuring you gain the most, academically and personally, during your study time with Portobello.  To facilitate this, we limit our class sizes to a maximum of 14 students on part-time programmes. With these uniquely small classes, we create the environment for you get to know everyone in your group, you can then feel comfortable and confident to ask questions and our tutors have the time to attend to the needs of each and every student. Course content modules

  1. Basic Block draft drafting
    - Cutting, sewing and proper fitting techniques
  2. Block Manipulation
    - How to make a shirt/blouse pattern from basic block 
    - Cutting and Sewing shirt
  3. Skirt Block 
    - Basic skirt block and full circle skirt 
    - Skirt pattern manipulation 
    - Sew full circle skirt (with hem and waistband)
