Garment Construction Part time
This Garment Construction course will allow students to gain skills in the practical element of garment assembly through knowledge of fabric, cutting and stitching.
Students will be encouraged to to design and develop a brief from a series of sketches and fabric swatches through to a complete a garment. Students will research fabric and haberdashery choices and explore how they can lend themselves to certain designs. Students will learn to manipulate patterns and make a range of garments to a high standard of craftsmanship. In line with garment construction students will gain experience in time management, costing and the order of production.
In addition to the practical modules, students will learn and develop their knowledge of design and investigate historical events influencing change in fashion over the years as well as researching leading designers of today.
Qualifications gained
- FETAC Level 6 Component Certificate in Garment Construction
Entry requirement
Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. There are no previous academic requirements.

This is a part time course delivered 1 evening a week.

- Planning and preparation of the making of garments to a design brief
- Translating and planning ideas from 2D into 3D forms in fabrics
- Fabrics and fibers in the garment making process
