The Fashion Buying & Merchandising course (advanced certificate) covers a concise range of modules ensuring students gain a practical insight into the world of fashion buying and merchandising.

As a Fashion Buyer you will play an important role within retail from supplier selection through to product decision making. The complex nature of this role focuses on management of a portfolio of suppliers, relationship building, as well as interfacing effectively with internally with other departments. Students will engage in trend forecasting to ensure that the season's collections match with consumer expectations.

Students of the advanced Fashion Buying & Merchandising course will study market context in which fashion buyers and merchandisers operate, along with the commercial viability. Aspects affecting the supply chain are studied including product strategies, design and development. The course will also address professional skills in communication, negotiation and presentation. This coupled with the practical modules such as fashion styling, promotion and event management equip learners with a full spectrum of skills needs to pursue a fashion buying career in this challenging area.

Entry requirement

Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. Students must have successfully completed the Fashion Buying & Merchandising Certificate (Year 1) or equivalent FETAC Level 5 course to gain entry. Acceptance to Full Time courses is interview based, there are no specific points requirements.
