The Fashion courses at Portobello Institute are an introduction to the foundations that are necessary to succeed in today's multi-billion euro global fashion industry.  While fashion trends change from season to season the fundamental role of the fashion professional remains the same. Whether working in Fashion Buying and Merchandising; Fashion Design; Fashion Management or Fashion Styling, you will play an integral role within the infrastructure of the retail team. You must have a good eye for style and trends together with a great sense of design and creativity.

Portobello Institute's courses introduce you to the busy but exciting world of fashion. You may learn to prepare mood boards, retail displays or analyse fashion trends in line with customer needs. The courses prepare you to undertake a variety of roles within the fashion industry by introducing you to relevant subjects from the worlds of fashion, business and retailing which are customised to the needs of the fashion industry.

Field trips are an essential part of the learning process here at Portobello Institute and we encourage all our students to attend trade shows  as part of their course.  Annually the fashion students will have the opportunity to attend Pure in London,- here are some pics from this years visit, fashion Forecast, Enterprise Ireland and Showcase Ireland.

Our tutors are all currently working in industry which gives the learner a real insight into industry knowledge.  Portobello Institute also have excellent links with key Irish brands.  Many of our graduates have gone on to work with Arnotts, Pennys and Dunnes Stores, House of Fraser and Brown Thomas to name a few. While others have continued their studies here in Ireland or overseas.

Keep an eye on our blog to get an insight into what our past students get up to. Aifric Dunne is a past student of our Fashion Buying and Merchandising course - read her success story here.

Our students are in high demand within the industry many getting full time employment from their work experience and/or shortly after completing the course (some even before they finish!).

  • This is what Rosemary Callanan from the Visual Display dept at Harvey Nicholas had to say about our students.

"Portobello students, come with great ideas, a good work ethic and a great knowledge of the fashion industry"

"I have worked with the Portobello Institute on a regular basis whereby the college have placed their Fashion Buying & Merchandising students, as part as an Internship programme, within my Wholesale Fashion Agency.
The one thing I liked is that every student placed as an Intern integrated quickly in the fashion wholesale environment & instantly became part of the team.
I found the experience in working with Portobello Institute a pleasurable one as they understood my needs for the Internship.
I would recommend working with the Institute on similar programmes as each student I have worked with over the last 3 years became an invaluable asset to the Agency during the busy Fashion buying seasons".
