Portobello Institute are delighted to announce the appointment of Charlie Dayman as the new College Director.  In his position he brings over 25 years of senior management experience, 12 of which is within the education sector as Director of Academic Affairs. He was awarded his Masters of Business Administration from Dublin City University in 2000 and received his BSc in Management from Trinity College in 1998.  During his academic career he has lectured on programmes from Level 5 to Level 9 (Masters) and has developed quality assurance documents which have been submitted to and approved by both FETAC and HETAC.  He has developed programmes to Level 7 on the Irish framework, and to Masters Level on the UK framework.  On being appointed Director he says "I am looking forward to working in an ever changing environment with passionate people, who are passionate about quality education.  That sums up what Portobello Institute is".

Portobello Institute Travel and Tourism graduates are excited about the arising opportunites with Travelport GDS.  The company are currently recruiting for the positions in supplier support roles covering Europe, Middle East and Africa providing support to Hertz Hilton directly through their support system or by phone.  Gallileo qualified students and past students Airline students are prime candidates for these roles.  The main requirements are 1G/1V professional experience which Portobello Institute provided through our training.  Successful applicants will then receive further training by Travelport in Supply support.  This is a fantastic opportunity for our graduates to kick start their career in Travel and Tourism.

We are always very pleased when our students successfully gain employment in thier chosen sector after studying with us.  Most recently Airlines student Igor Melnik secured a role with Irelands low cost airline Ryanair.  This is a fantastic appointment for Igor who always wanted to work as an Airline steward.  Igor was guided by his expert tutors who collectively pass on a wealth of knowledge in this sector. Igor says "I am really happy to secure this role as it is my first step to the future working in the Aviation industry.  I am not so happy as I have to relocate to Bristol and leave all my friends behind but this is a fantastic opportunity".

The Dragons Den particpants from Portobello Institute 'Full Time Business Management' programme arrived armoured with great idieas today.  Acting as Dragons for the day, Kimberley Dunne Fleming and Cait Barden commented that some of the ideas were current and innovative and they parted with over €160,000 between them for equity in 3 of the businesses.  3 other businesses showed great potential.  Ideas were mooted for the car servicing industry (Conan Murray), Mobile Marketing (Joy Isabel Villaneuva, Nutrional Products (Steven Wijntjes), Beauty Services (Zolzaya Sodnomdarjaa), Cupcake Company (Sinead Fanning), Italian Food Business (Bolortungalag Erdene), Clothing and Styling Business (Zubia Azfal), and Tourism Product ( Ciara McCarthy).  Learners are now equiped to present their business plans to Angel investors, Enterprise Ireland, Enterprise Borads as a result of 12 weeks learning inthe module business planning -  a useful exercise for any wannabe entrepreneur.

The Glen Group in Balinteer, Dublin are a voluntary organisation who run a summer camp for young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities age 16+.  The camp which runs during the montth of July is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help out this summer.  Glen Group offer a number activites ranging from horse riding, sea safari, arts and crafts, absailing and much more.
