Presentation time for our Business students

What is it like to pitch a Business idea to potential investors and banks successfully?  Well thats what our current Business students will find out on 14th February. In the style of the infamous TV show "Dragons Den" each of the students must present their ideas to a boad of investos lead by head tutor Maurice Knightly, college registrar Jamie McNamara and their fellow students.  The verbal presentation which can include a Powerpoint presentation must include the following;

Working with children is extremely rewarding

The Montessori method of pre-school education has been around since the 1800's and a role as a teacher within a school can be extremely rewarding. The freedom of movement for children is the main ethos behind this method whereby the child comes first, the environment second and the teacher observes and guides the child.  This organic approach encourages independence at an early age and sets the foundation for learning in later years.

Neil Cleary joins the team of Facilities tutors

Portobello Institute are delighted to welcome Neil Cleary to the ILM Level 3 Facilities Management programme.  Neil is a a Senior Operations Manager with Jones Lang LaSalle providing full Facilities Management on an EMEA client account.  He holds a BSc in Management from Sligo and an MSc in Management of Operations from DCU.  In addition he holds qualifications in certificates in Business Studies (IT Sligo), Quality Management (IT Athlone) and Managing teams (NCI).  Neil has worked in the facilities industry for past 10 years with outsourced providers.  He has worked in pharmaceutical, semi-conductor and telecoms industry providing the full range of hard and soft services.  Previous to being directly involved in FM Neil worked in Training for 9 years in both local and global roles, primarily developing and delivering technical training courses to both customers and in-house staff.

Eric Khoo joins the Tutor team on the BIFM programme for Spring 2012

Last year Portobello Institue were the first education provider to be awarded the BIFM accreditation and since then have successfully delivered this Level 5 Facilities Management course which has set the standard for those wishing to pursue a career in Facilities Management.  The college prides itself on its expert tutors and Portobello Institute are delighted to welcome Eric Khoo onto the board of lectures on the BIFM programme who will deliver the Finance module.

Holiday World Show at the RDS

At last its nearly the end of January.  Time to start planning a holiday maybe?  Then the Holiday World Show this weekend at the RDS is the place to be (27-29 Jan). Over the weekend there will be a host of exhibitors from the Travel industry showcasing their business from Tour operators through to Airline reps advising visitors on the top holiday destinations to visit.  The show will feature a number of areas such as Cruise ideas, Value for money holidays, Global advice and holidays for the over 55's to name a few.

Ian Boylan to deliver our new Certified Energy Manager programme

Spring 2012 sees the launch of a new faculty by Portobello Institute providing tailored training and consultancy in the build environment, in sustainability and the environment.  The Institute have consulted with key professionals in the industry and designed a number of Internationally accredited programmes in Energy Management, Environmental Management and Waste Management.  This new faculty is suitably named CME - Centre for the Modern Environment.
