Holistic Massage has been used for thousands of years as a simple and effective method of attaining & maintaining good health. Massage has been incorporated into many health systems and is the basis and foundation skills of any massage therapist.

The Holistic Massage course will give you all of the classical massage movements and also the underpinning knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology. If you are interested in becoming an Alternative or Complementary Therapist then we recommend that you commence with this course as it is often used as a prerequisite for many of the other complementary therapies such as aromatherapy, stone therapy & sports massage.

This course will also teach you to have a holistic approach when dealing with clients that you will use throughout your career as a complementary therapist.

Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. There are no previous academic requirements.

Class Sizes

We are committed to ensuring you gain the most, academically and personally, during your study time with Portobello.  To facilitate this, we limit our class sizes to a maximum of 14 students on part-time programmes. With these uniquely small classes, we create the environment for you get to know everyone in your group, you can then feel comfortable and confident to ask questions and our tutors have the time to attend to the needs of each and every student. Many of our students tell us of the lifelong friendships they have made during their study time with Portobello.

Assignment Support

We understand the challenge of completing assignments at third level, the new skills and the change in thinking sometimes needed to put on paper, all that you have learned. We offer our students the opportunity to submit a draft assignment for informal feedback before submitting the final version. We care about your success, we want you to achieve the best you can and we offer you the individual support to acquire the skills you need to communicate what you have learned whilst studying with Portobello Institute.

 

Course Structure

This is a part-time course delivered 1 evening a week.

Course Content Modules

  1. The concept & history of massage
  2. You will find out about the physiological & psychological effects of massage whilst learning how to select the correct medium and treatment plan for a client
  3. You will learn to master through guidance & practice the 10 classical massage movements that include effleurage, petrissage, kneading & frictions, hacking, cupping, beating, pounding, tapotement & vibrations
  4. The Anatomy & Physiology section of this course gives you the underpinning knowledge for all further learning in the various therapies and includes the four major & four minor systems of the body
