Part time Fashion Buying and Merchandising student Nerea Fernandez is making the most of her fashion course at Portobello Institute.  Since enrolling on her course in October Nerea has already secured a work placement with Fashion Designer Caroline Kilkenny where she is working on everything from customer orders through to studio assistant, giving her a real insight into the day to day operations of a fashion studio. Originating from Madrid with a degree in Food Science and Nutrition Nerea moved overseas to Ireland and decided to try a new career path and with a love for creativity and fashion she decided to enroll on the part-time fashion buying and merchandising course at Portobello Institute.

Most recently Nerea visited the popular trade show Pure in London.  Over the course of the two day expo she got to network with many womenswear and accessories brand owners, looking at the collections and emerging trends for the forth coming season. " Inwear was my favourite brand." says Nerea.  "The collection was a mix of traditional tailored and masculine pieces.  The fashion forecast presentation by WGSN was the most informative.  The speakers were really knowledgeable and I came away bursting with ideas. Trade shows such as Pure are a great opportunity for fashion students like me to get a feel of the industry and to experience first hand what my further career may be like as a buyer for a large department store or small boutique".
