Over the years Portobello Institute has carried out many trips to India to work with disadvantaged children. The most recent project that the college have been supporting is BSSK.  BSSK is an orphanage and a childcare centre which provides education for children less fortunate.  Many slum children have to drop out of school due to poverty and are forced to work to support their families.  By providing sponsored education at BSSK the organisers can try and eliminate child labour and encourage children to gain independence and better social skills through learning and further development.

Portobello Institute has been supporting this charity for the past two years.  Our Montessori tutors and past students have travelled to Pune to spend time with the teachers demonstrating the various methods of Montessori teaching and how they can use these methods in their class. Other staff members from Portobello have volunteered numerous hours to spend time with the children at BSSK, encouraging learning and expression through arts & crafts, games and much more.

The next trip to BSSK in Pune takes place in February 2014 and we are asking for your support. Two of our volunteers, Sophie Dolan and Shauna Wosser who are taking part in the February trip are currently fundraising for BSSK.  They have put together a great raffle which is bursting full of prizes.  Tickets starts at €2 each or €10 for a book of 5 and all proceeds go towards funds for BSSK.

Show your support this Christmas and purchase a ticket.  Raffle tickets are available from the college reception at 43 Lower Dominick Street.  The winners will be announced 20th December 2013.

Please share this post with your friends and family and try and support those less fortunate this Christmas
