In Ireland, sport supports 40,000 jobs and as a nation we spend more than €2 billion on sport-related activity every year. For those with a love for sport a wide and increasing range of career opportunities exist in the sporting world, covering a diverse range of disciplines.

Knowledge is power and you can never know too much. The sports industry is forever changing with new trends continuously emerging so it’s best to be one step ahead. Due to continued demand Portobello Institute are delighted to have released a full schedule of part-time and intensive courses. Learners can choose from sports coaching, psychology, gym instructor, personal training, and nutritional advisor.

Sports coaching has a strong focus on methods and strategies for training players. It teaches techniques, rules and dynamics of the game, human psychology and physiology.

With sports psychology, the influence of psychology on sports in different areas is taught where sport doesn’t just take physical strength, but mental and emotional well-being as well.

The gym instructor course provides the necessary skills to fill various roles in a fitness centre environment. Personal training builds on the gym instructor qualification and looks at functional anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, nutrition and also exercise prescription.

Sports nutritionist is a vital piece in sport today and teaches rather than prescribes, so an individual can make life-long choices. The course provides skills necessary to provide nutritional advice for active leisure, recreation and physical activity.

To allow for busy schedules we provide flexible evening, weekend and intensive courses from covering a range of industry trends and offer very competitive combo courses across our most popular courses.
