Aoife completed her QQI Level 6 in Early Childhood with Portobello Institute in 2013. She knew she had always wanted to care for and teach young children. “This seemed like the obvious path for me.”

After completing the level 6 course Aoife quickly became aware of the importance for further education to better enhance her ability to guide the children in her care, and consequently began the BA degree programme at Portobello Institute in 2014.

“One of my tutors pointed me towards the Early Childhood Studies Degree with Portobello Institute in conjunction with London Metropolitan University and I have never looked back.”

“Thanks to the intimate class sizes, tutors quickly got to know every student’s strengths and weaknesses and essentially guided them to achieve their full potential. They constantly made themselves available to students and always pointed us in the right direction for further reading on areas of interest.”

Tutors come from a variety of backgrounds within the early year’s sector; armed with a wealth of knowledge, expertise and passion. “I would not have been able to complete the course without their constant guidance, support and enthusiasm. I truly believe the tutors are the greatest assets of the course.”

Aoife gives some very sound guidance to students. “My advice to future Early Childhood Studies students is to read, read and read!” “Once you have read the module content you will be able to observe it coming to life in the work experience. Also, always choose a topic you are interested in or are passionate about as this will make the assignments write themselves and most of all enjoy it!”

Aoife expresses how lucky she is to be working within the sector and how fantastic it has been to use the knowledge gained throughout the course in the classroom setting every day.

“Each module completed has given me confidence in my ability as a practitioner and to bring out the best in every child I work with.” For Aoife the course ignited a strong passion in child development, especially in the area of creative development and the children’s ability to express them-selves.

The course has essentially given Aoife access to her passion and has allowed her work within this every day. “Completing this course was the best thing I have ever done and I couldn’t be prouder to say I did it with Portobello Institute.”

Aoife admits she never thought of herself as being capable of completing a degree. “I’ve now caught the education bug with my latest desire to further my education and have to attain a master's degree within Early Childhood - it would be an honour to be have the opportunity to complete this at my second home Portobello Institute.”
