We love to hear about success stories from past students who have landed their dream job in their chosen industry.  It takes dedication and passion to complete a course and secure your dream job after graduating but that's exactly what happend to Fashion Buying and Merchandising student Aifric Dunne.  Aifric was a star pupil throughout her 1 year Certificate course.  She was the winner of the Fran and Jane window display competition which saw her winning "Carousel" design displayed in the Claridon Street store.  Here Aifric talks about her experience at Portobello and her new role at Arnotts as a buying and merchandising assistant.

I loved the Fashion Buying and Merchandising course in Portobello Institute. I really enjoyed working with the tutors and listening to their past experiences of the industry.  The tutors always gave great advise in terms of ways our projects could work better and how to improve our skills.

I definitely think that the experiences in the classroom really helped me with my current job role at Arnotts, especially in terms of excel and calculations.  I also felt very confident in my interview when going for this job as I could relate back to what I had learnt at college and how I could enforce it in the workplace.

Winning the Fran & Jane window competition gave me a real taster of the fashion world and gave me huge confidence in my own skills and what I could create.  I think winiining the competition really demonstrated to me that the fashion industry was the place for me and there was nothing else I wanted to do when it came to deciding on a career.  It also showed me how hard you have to work in order to get the results you want to achieve.

I am currently working with Arnotts and I have to say I love my job.  There is so much to learn and every day throws a new challenge your way which I absolutely love - no two days are ever the same and there is never a dull moment.  Planning ahead in years to come I would love to be a head buyer for a department store.  I think department store buying is where I want to be.  I am in a very fortunate position as Arnotts are a great company to work for and they really want to train you in everything they know.

Originally I started off as an Intern working with the lingerie and hosiery buyer and the concessions buyer.  Working alongside them and hearing and seeing their daily roles and responsibilities really made me fall even more in love with the idea of being a buyer.  When an job opportunity came my way for a position with the buying team I jumped at the chance and was successful in securing the role as buying and merchandising assistant. I could not be happier with my new role at Arnotts.

Lastly I would like to say a huge "Thank You" to the course programmer Nicola Kilkenny for putting me forward for the internship at Arnotts and to the tutors of the course who were a great support network throughout the year.  They taught me so much in a year and really made me fall in love with the industry.
