Great article written in the Independent Newspaper today on how Private Colleges like Portobello Institute are a great alternative to 3rd level colleges as they as offer courses through the CAO as well as having direct entry routes to many courses. Some students find the Private College option attractive because the CAO cut-off points for a course in a private college tend to be lower than for a similar programme in a university or institute of technology (IT). Also with the increase, to €3,000, next September in the student contribution charge at publicly-funded third-level colleges, the cost difference between the two options has narrowed considerably.
