We were really excited to welcome Emma from Dermalogica at the college this week to speak with our full time Beauty students.  Armed with all our favouirte Dermalogica producuts Emma showed our beauty students step by step how to deliver the ultimate Dermalogica facial to clients.  Most were familiar with the products Emma demoed as we use Dermalogica in our treatment rooms but there were a number of different products that the group had not used and Emma was only too happy to showcase these to the them, highlighting the properties and benefits of each product to the skincare regime.

Emma started out with a client consultation to ascertain the cleint's skins type, skincare regime and what products they are currently using.  Once the client was settled on the bed she carried out a foot and hand cleanse using a botanical mixer.  Deep inhalations of these aromatic oil free blends reduces cortisol levels in the body so deep breathing at the beginning of a treatment sets the level for a calm and relaxing session.  Moving on Emma did an eye and lip cleanse before doing a pre-cleanse followed by a second cleanse using the Ultra Calming Cleanser as the client had some sensitive skin areas.  The Raspberry and cucumber helped to soothe and calm her skin when applied.

Face Mapping is the main part of any facial and Emma clearly broke down the 14 different zones of the face that needed analysing, highlighting the neck which is the first area to show signs of aging. Throughout the skin analysis she used the specialised Dermalogica goggles to get an accurate close up look at the different areas of the skin.  She then carried out an exfoliation using Daily Microfoliant.  Followed by extractions and a massage it was time to move on to a masque. Emma showcased four different masques on the day, each with different properties and benefits. Using a masque not only intensifies the results of the treatments but can also treat various conditions such as acne, premature aging or sensitivity. The Colloidal Masque is the most hydrating and Emma used this on some areas of the clients skin along with the MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque.  She highlighted that you can use all four masques if required to ensure the client gets the appropriate care on the day for different areas of the face and neck.   As she moved towards the end of the treatment she finished with the Multi Active Toner, MultiiVitamin Power Firm eye cream and the Active Moist moisturiser.  This is Dermalogicas best selling product, with 1 sold every 30 seconds worldwide.

When demoing the products and application our students were completely engaged and Emma commented on the level of our students learning and how Portobello Institute train beauty students to industry standard which is fantastic feedback to have from a Dermalogica representative.  Our students are now at the stage of their course where they are ready to carry out facials in the college and following on from our fantastic training day with Emma they are inspired and eager to get going.  The group will be visiting the Dermalogica training rooms in Rathmines later this year to follow up on further training and with a generous student discount I can predict a bit of personal shopping my take place on the day too.

A BIG Thank You to Emma for taking the time to come and see us at Portobello Institute.
