Sinead Frew graduated from DIT in 2013 with a BSc in Retail and Services Management. Her long term focus was ultimately to get into fashion buying. Initially, this proved difficult for Sinead who found Ireland to have a small and very competitive workforce pool within the retail sector.

Over the years after leaving college Sinead worked within the FMCG sector for two multinational food companies. From her experience within the grocery industry she secured a role as Fresh Foods Buying Administrator for a leading Irish retailer. Although working in a buying office, Sinead wanted to move away from the grocery industry.

Sinead began her search in relevant part time courses with an aim to “further my knowledge and broaden my understanding of fashion buying functions without having to apply for a postgraduate diploma”. On reviewing the courses available to her Sinead felt that Portobello Institute stood out because of “the structure and broad course content from Visual Merchandising to Range Planning, and down to the success stories from previous students also.”

Since enrolling on the Fashion Buying and Merchandising course in 2016 Sinead has been very successful in her goal, securing a dream job as a Buying Assistant in the Brown Thomas Head Offices. “An opportunity that would not have been available without the help and advice I received from the experienced course co-ordinators at Portobello institute”. “Overall, I feel that the course has provided me with key learning’s that I can carry with me throughout my career”.

The future looks bright for Sinead who hopes to one day open her own retail store which has always been a dream for her and we wish her all the very best!  To start your dream journey in Fashion Buying come and see us at the college, call 01 8920007 or email sarah.reardon@portobelloinstitute.ie for full course details.
