The Centre for Modern Environment (CME), a faculty of the renowned Portobello Institute, offers a range of courses across the natural and built environment sectors. Facilities Management is a fast-growing sector in Ireland and CME design their programmes to meet the needs of this rising sector. The facility management programmes of study are tailored to supporting Facilities Managers.

Accredited by the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), CME were the first education provider in Ireland to gain BIFM accreditation in (2013). Since gaining this accreditation, CME have worked tirelessly over the years building strong relationships with BIFM, ensuring CME deliver a specialised suite of FM programmes.

Premium content in addition to the high learner success rate, has seen the centre gain a reputable status within the industry. Lectures from high profile companies in both the public sector, such as HSE and Department of Finance, and private sectors such as FM service providers, Financial Institutions etc, further enhance the learning experience at CME. Close industry links ensure senior business practitioners are regular guest contributors alongside lecturers.

The most recent BIFM audit for the centre highlighted CME’s quality and deliverance of their programmes as redeeming factors to the centres notable success. Guided learning and support were noted, with continued learner feedback throughout the programme. The EQA states “the centre is passionate in their approach to delivering a quality product and maintaining the integrity of both the centre and BIFM. This continues to be demonstrated by their willingness to adapt to change and to introduce new methods of control and best practice” (BIFM, 2017)

Located in Dublin city centre, CME offer an entry level 3 programme into FM, aimed at those starting out on their career path. This programme is also suitable for first-line managers and supervisors seeking to develop their skills and gain a recognised FM qualification. Learners can then progress onto Level 4 or 5 which is aimed middle and senior management specialising in complex FM functions. Finally, the top tier BIFM level 6 programme primarily hones in on strategic review and development of FM service provision.
